Charles Keefer & Tarah Singh
partnered up in 2007 and began discussing ways to reduce their carbon footprint, create community and provide for their new combined family.
Encouraging education in sustainable living, agricultural experiments(such as aquaponics, potatoes in tires, vermicomposting, grey-water systems and garden planning) along with bio-fuel production became main focal points for them over the past few yrs. They are not just providing food, but helping individuals committed to their community develop into Harvest Thyme Co. Op. (our abbreviation for community opportunity) which is a growing team of individuals.
In 2008 they created Raleigh Food co-op which was more of a buying group from regional farms in the area. This has developed into a few parts:
- Harvest Thyme CSA is a team of individuals, not just providing food for others, but helping ones in their community developed into real skills in gardening and growth.
- Focusing on Keeping our local economy strong.
- NC Food Coop, consists of items grown by Charles and Tarah and regional farmers.
- We are also interested in supporting youth and local artisan micro- enterprise projects.
